Originally granted planning permission for a 5MW project, a change in the government’s feed-in-tariff rendered this project uneconomic to build due to excessive grid connection costs. JBM worked closely with the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and the landowner to re-size this project to just under 2MW and worked with the district council to secure amendments to the original planning consent. Constructed and commissioned by Valfortec before the end of March 2014, this plant is now generating and earning Renewable Obligation certificates under the 1.6 ROC banding.
The landowner in this case was particularly keen to ensure continued agricultural use on the land and now grazes sheep within the solar farm enclosure. The landowner has also availed of the opportunity to take on the maintenance contract for the land, increasing his overall financial return.
